Advising Older Clients – Risks, Resources, and Prudent Practices
|
An Advocacy/Ethics Committee Sponsored Event
Older Americans, especially those aged 65 and older, are one of the largest holders of wealth in the United States and historically the most affluent they have ever been. This demographic is a natural client base for financial advisers especially given the unique challenges that provide opportunities for advisers to add value. Increasing longevity requires additional financial resources. Greater overall health increases the use of that wealth for travel, recreation and community involvement. Older adults face the prospect of long term health costs and may need to support their adult children and grandchildren. Our speakers will give an overview of some of the important issues that advisors should be aware of including end-of life planning, long term care, and assisting elder adults with day-to-day living tasks.
John C. Lansing is an Elder Law attorney practicing in Pasadena, California. He became an Elder Law attorney in large part due to his experience caring for his mother. She was afflicted with a neurodegenerative disease in early middle age. John’s practice focuses on long term care, estate planning, conservatorships, probates, special needs trusts, Medi-Cal, and Medi-Cal appeals. John enjoys speaking and writing on Elder Law topics, has been featured on NPR, and is on the faculty of the American Institute of Philanthropic Studies. ^^Back To Top
