Who Qualifies?

  • Sign Professional Conduct Statement.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/work experience
  • Pass all three levels of the CFA Exam
  • 4,000 hours of professional work experience (completed in a minimum of 36 months)
  • Maintain membership with CFA Institute
  • 2 Professional References (if at least one is from a CFA Charterholder or Professional Member of the society to which you are applying) or 3 Professional References: 
    • Make sure you remind your references to submit their referrals as soon as possible and to whitelist (or check spam/junk folder) for the domain @cfainstitute.org
    • Please note that if you have CFA Charterholder or Professional Members (of the local society) submitting references for you, please make sure they log into their CFA Institute account, otherwise when they submit their reference, they will not be listed as a CFA Charterholder and it may delay your application process.

All Charterholder and Professional Members are considered "Regular" Members of CFA Society Los Angeles in accordance to the society's bylaws. XXX

How Applications are Processed

  • Due to the bylaws of the society, each member must be voted on and approved by the entire CFA Society Los Angeles board.
  • The board reviews all membership applications at the beginning of each month and decisions are distributed 10-15 days afterwards. Charterholder and Professional (formerly known as "Regular") Members will need to be approved by CFA Institute prior to CFA Society Los Angeles’ membership process. Charterholder and Professional members will be given temporary membership status within 3 business days of approval with CFA Institute.

Membership Term

  • All Memberships expire on June 30th of the current fiscal year.
  • Membership Renewal begins in early May.
