A Wealth Management Advisory Council Sponsored Event

The relationship between private equity and the RIA community is reshaping the private wealth management landscape. As private equity firms continue to deploy significant capital into the sector, RIAs are weighing what outside investment means for growth, independence, succession, and long-term value creation.

This discussion will explore what is driving private equity’s continued interest in RIAs, the characteristics that make certain firms more attractive acquisition targets, and why a growing number of advisors are choosing to partner instead of going their own way. We’ll examine how private equity-backed RIAs are using that capital to accelerate growth, pursue acquisitions, invest in talent and technology, and expand their capabilities.

The conversation will also look at the relationship from the other side of the table: how RIAs are allocating client capital to private equity which may actually be investing directly in their competitors. Finally, we’ll address the bigger question facing the industry: Where does this all lead? As consolidation accelerates and private equity ownership becomes increasingly prevalent, what will the next generation of the RIA industry look like—and what does it mean for advisors and their clients?

Matt Matrisian As President of Signature Estate & Investment Advisors, LLC (SEIA), Matt Matrisian brings three decades of experience reimagining how wealth management firms scale with purpose while preserving the personal touch that defines exceptional service. His guiding belief is that the industry’s greatest potential lies in simplifying complexity and freeing advisors to focus on what they do best: building lasting client relationships.

Matt co-leads SEIA alongside CEO Brian Holmes, guiding the firm’s growth strategy across $35+ billion in assets under advisement and driving roughly 10% organic growth. His approach rests on a simple conviction: sustainable growth expands possibilities, not just footprints. Under his leadership, SEIA has maintained sub-5% advisor attrition in acquired practices—evidence that disciplined growth can strengthen, rather than dilute, the human connections that drive success.

Since joining SEIA, Matt has hired the firm’s first Chief Growth Officer, built out advanced planning capabilities, and executed a modernization of SEIA’s technology stack and AI capabilities—initiatives designed to amplify advisor productivity and deepen client outcomes.

Matt’s M&A expertise reflects a core belief that successful integration demands more than operational alignment; it requires cultural harmony and shared vision. He has consistently focused on growth opportunities that create lasting value—building new channels, developing profitable market segments, and forging strategic partnerships that enable meaningful expansion.

Earlier, during his tenure at AssetMark, Matt helped scale assets under management from $20 billion to $140 billion. That experience shaped his view of technology in wealth management: not as a replacement for human insight, but as an amplifier of advisor capabilities.

A sought-after industry voice, Matt has shared his insights at more than 150 conferences and authored over 30 articles, including “The Power of Practice Management: Best Practices for Building a Better Advisory Business.” Back To Top ^^
