CCE programs allow a local government, or a group of local governments to determine what energy is purchased on behalf of their residents, businesses, and other electricity customers. Community Choice Energy (“CCE”) is an increasingly popular tool in CA for delivering “cleaner” energy to all electricity customers in a service area, at rates that are competitive with those of investor owned utilities. CCE programs allow a local government, or a group of local governments to determine what energy is purchased on behalf of their residents, businesses, and other electricity customers.

Successful CCE programs exist in Marin, Sonoma, Lancaster, Apple Valley, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Humboldt County, and other programs are becoming established in Monterey County, Los Angeles County, and Riverside County.

April will give us an insight of CCE’s origin, when and why it became not just ecologically necessary but also financially feasible, speak about possibilities of a local CCE programs, discuss some potential challenges, and explore the benefits of CCE.
